Managing your team
Members, departments and teams
Edit people after they join, change several at once, and set up the departments and teams that decide who sees whom.
Your org chart — people, departments and teams — decides who manages whom, which policies apply to whom, and whose time each manager and lead can see. Keep it current and access follows automatically.
| Department | Manager | Teams |
|---|---|---|
| Design | Neha Kapoor | Brand (lead Ananya Iyer), Product Design |
| Engineering | Rahul Verma | Platform |
Go to WorkspaceMembers. The page has three tabs: People, Departments and Teams. To add people, see Invite your team.
Edit a member#
Open the member’s menu
On the People tab, choose ⋯ at the end of their row, then Edit…. You can also choose Edit at the top of their member page.
Change what you need
Only the fields your role may change are shown.
Choose Save changes
The change is audited, and their policy and visibility update straight away.
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Role | Only roles you may grant are offered. Only an owner can make someone an owner, or change an owner’s role. |
| Employment | Employee, contractor or freelancer. Owners and admins only. |
| Department | Their department. The department’s manager sees them. Owners and admins only. |
| Manager | Their direct manager, who sees their time and approves their timesheets. |
| Teams | Teams they belong to. Each team’s manager and lead see them. |
| Default project | Where their automatic time and timers without a project go. Empty means the workspace default. |
| Works in (for regional rules) | Only if they work somewhere other than the workspace’s country, for example DE or US-IL. Entered by you, never detected from their device. |
Change several people at once#
Owners and admins can tick the boxes on the left of the People list. A bar appears with Move to department, Add to team, Archive and Clear. Each person’s change is recorded separately.
Archiving
Departments#
On the Departments tab, choose New department, give it a name and optionally a Department manager. The department manager sees everyone in the department. People are placed in a department from their member page (Edit → Department) or with Move to department.
To change or remove one, choose ⋯ → Edit or Delete…. Deleting a department keeps its people and teams (they just have no department), and removes any policy assigned to it, so those people fall back to their team or workspace policy.
Teams#
Choose New team
On the Teams tab.
Fill it in
Name, Department, Manager, Team lead and Members. The team’s manager and lead can see its members’ time, and team policies apply to them.
Choose Create team
Edit it later from ⋯ → Edit, or by clicking the row.
Managers can edit the teams they manage — the lead and the members — but can’t hand the team to another manager. Only owners and admins create or delete teams.
