Managing your team

Timesheet settings

Timesheet periods, rounding, default projects, and whether people can edit their own time.

ForOwnerAdmin

A few workspace settings shape every timesheet: how long a period is, how hours are rounded, and where time without a project goes. A policy setting decides whether people can change their own time freely.

Who can do this:OwnerAdminManagers can set a default project for the people in their scope from the member edit dialog.

Go to WorkspaceSettings and find the Timesheets & hours card.

The Timesheets & hours card in Settings.
FieldWhat it means
Timesheet periodDaily, Weekly (Mon–Sun), Twice a month (1–15, 16–end) or Monthly. Applies to new periods; existing timesheets keep their dates, and a new period never overlaps them.
Default projectAutomatic time and timers started without a project go here, unless the person has their own default. Leave it as Unassigned if you prefer.
RoundingNo rounding, or 1, 5, 6 (0.1 h) or 15 minutes — To nearest, Always up or Always down. Each entry is rounded when hours are shown on timesheets or exported. Tracked time itself is never changed.

Rounding is shown, not hidden

Timesheets and the approval view mark rounded totals, so it’s always clear when hours are rounded. The exact tracked time is kept alongside.

A person’s own default project#

Open the person under Members, choose Edit, and set Default project. It wins over the workspace default. Time is only ever put on a project the person is allowed to log to.

Who can edit their own time#

This is a policy setting, so different groups can have different rules. Open the policy under WorkspacePolicies and find Editing own time:

OptionWhat it means
People edit freelyChanges apply straight away and are recorded in the entry’s history.
Changes need approvalA person’s change waits under Entry changes to review on Approvals until an approver accepts or declines it.
Only managers can editPeople can’t change their own entries; managers and admins can, and every change is audited.

Managers can always correct entries for people in their scope, and every change keeps the original values.

What the member sees

People always see their own entries, the rounded and exact hours, and every change made to their time — including who made it and what it was before.

Questions#

We switched from weekly to monthly. What happens to this week?
Timesheets that already exist keep their dates. New timesheets follow the monthly period, trimmed so they never overlap one that already exists.
Does rounding change what people are paid?
It changes the hours in the export your payroll tool reads, which is why it’s shown openly. The tracked time is never altered.
